GEOMETRY PROGRAMS FOR THE TI-83+ - READ ME BY ANDREW BARR 1. What this is --------------- This TI-83 Plus group file contains five programs that are designed to help second-semester geometry students just starting triginomitery. In the package, there is a program for solving problems related to the law of sines and the law of cosines, finding the geometric mean, solving "speical right triangles" (like 30-60-90 triangles), and finding the slope/midpoint/distance of a line on a graph. 2. Note on sending to your calculator ------------------------------------- When you send these programs to your calculator, leave them in the group file. If you don't, the menus and prompts will be corrupted. This is due to the fact that the menus and prompts are written in lower case, and there is a defect in the TI-GRAPH Link software that does not allow you to ungroup or open calculator source code that has lower case in it. However, once they are on your calculator, you can edit them freely, provided you have the means to enable editing of the source code (they are "locked"). 3. System Requirements ---------------------- These programs have been tested on a TI-83 Plus, but they may run on other TI graphing calculator models. This is not recommended, however. To transfer the programs to your calculator, you will need either a Mac or PC equipped with the TI-GRAPH Link software, and the corrosponding cable that works with your system. On your TI-83+, you will need about 3K of free RAM. It should be noted, however, that these programs may be placed in the Archive memory should you have a program manager such as MirageOS. 4. Installing/Transferring -------------------------- To install these programs on your calculator, use an archival utility that supports the ZIP format, such as WinZip (available at http://www.winzip.com) and extract the main file (GEOPROG.8XG) to a temporary folder (C:\WINDOWS\TEMP will do fine). Then, open your TI-GRAPH Link software. Make sure your TI-GRAPH Link cable is secured to your computer's serial port (see your user's manual for more information on this), and the calculator-to-calculator cable is secured to the calculator and the other end of the TI-GRAPH Link. Next, click on the Link menu and point to Send To, then select the appropriate memory to send your programs to (If you are not sure, select RAM). Then, under Directories, navigate to your temporary folder. Note that if your temporary folder contains any long file names, they will be terminated at six characters and a "~1" will be added to the end. Select "Group (*.8xg;*.83g)" from the "List files of type:" list. Find "geoprog.8xg" on the list and click Add. Then, click OK. The programs will be ungrouped and sent to your calculator. 5. Notes on use --------------- These programs are freeware. You are free to do what you wish with them. However, no warranties are made on their performance, express or implied. Good practice with new software products constitutes testing the software with non-critical data before using the software with critical data. The author of this software pack (Andrew Barr) assumes no liability for loss of data/property or incorrect results produced by the programs contained within.
