Virtual Calc 1.0 ---------------- By Michael Vincent (michael@detacheds.com) Released: 08/18/01 Produced by: ------------ Detached Solutions www.detacheds.com What is Virtual Calc? --------------------- Virtual Calc is a flash application and it is for the TI-83 Plus Silver Edition only. It makes use of the currently unused 96K of RAM in the Silver Edition to allow you to create a second "image" of your calculator. You can then switch between them, and use each image/state just like you would an independent calculator. This has many uses; for example, you can trace a graph on one state, and calculate at the homescreen on the other. This application is beneficial for those TI-83 Plus Silver Edition users who need to simultaneously perform tasks on their calculator. Calculator Installation Instructions: ------------------------------------- 1. Open your TI-GRAPHLINK software on your computer. 2. Click the Link menu, then choose "Send Flash Software." 3. Choose "Applications and Certificates..." 4. Browse to find where you downloaded VCALC.8XK and click the "Add" button. 5. Click "OK". The application should begin transferring to your TI-83 Plus Silver Edition. If you receive a memory error, you will need to delete some apps and/or archived programs on your calculator. First Time Instructions: ------------------------ 1. Press the APPS key on your calculator, and select "VCalc". 2. Press any key after viewing the title screen. 3. You should see a message saying "VCalc installed." 4. If an error message appears, consult the Error section towards the end of this document. 5. Continue with the Usage instructions below. Usage: ------ When Virtual Calc is installed, you will be able to swap between the two virtual calculators it provides by pressing the On key and the Mode key at the same time. You can press On+MODE to swap back and forth as much as you like. Each virtual calculator's operating state will be saved when you switch. Important Usage Notes: ---------------------- Programs stored in the archive memory are "shared" by both virtual calculators. You must not archive/unarchive a program while Virtual Calc is running. If you wish to do so, simply run the Virtual Calc app again to uninstall, make the changes, and reinstall. When you run Virtual Calc to uninstall it, the current virtual calculator you are using will be kept. The other one is discarded. Possible Errors: ---------------- "A TI-83 Plus Silver Edition is required..." - This will appear if you attempt to run Virtual Calc on a TI-83 Plus. You must have TI-83 Plus Silver Edition to run Virtual Calc. "Incompatible with this ROM version." - This is displayed if you attempt to run Virtual Calc on a TI-83 Plus Silver Edition with a ROM newer than 1.13. The reason for this message is to prevent incompatibilities with future OS versions by Texas Instruments. Contact ------- Please send any comments, questions, or suggestions to michael@detacheds.com
